Meiya Neet

Hello! I am a counselor in training and a graduate student at Cleveland State University pursuing a master's in Clinical Mental Health & Counseling. I received a B.A. in Psychology at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts. I have a background in community mental health settings, including positions as a domestic violence advocate and trauma/crisis intervention specialist for victims of violent crime. As a queer-identifying adopted Asian American, I’m also passionate about working with fellow members of the LGBTQ+ community and individuals impacted by adoption.

My work with survivors of various traumatic experiences has helped me appreciate the importance of establishing a strong therapeutic relationship with clients built on counseling pillars of trust, empathy, humor, and compassion. I am committed to providing services through trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming, and sex-positive lenses, practicing multi-cultural sensitivity and awareness, and holding an emotionally brave space for clients to express themselves authentically without fear of judgement.

I take a humanistic approach to counseling theories and treatment styles, with an emphasis on person-centered, feminist, and narrative theories that acknowledge the client as the expert in their own lives and prioritize unconditional positive regard. I am trained in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing  (EMDR) which is often used for trauma.

Outside of the office and classrooms, I spend most of my free time exploring Cleveland’s food scenes and local parks with friends and living vicariously through dog/cat owners as a pet sitter.

Thank you for checking out my page and if we meet, I hope I can be positive part of your journey, either as your counselor or a guide to other counselors and resources you need and deserve!
