Jacob Irey

Jacob Irey is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) at Grow Well Cleveland, LCC. He received a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Cleveland State University in 2018. Jacob has worked primarily with individuals who struggle with OCD, Depression, Trauma, and Anxiety as well those who are marginalized, HIV+, and LGBTQIA+.

Therapy/Counseling can be viewed as an opportunity for clients to explore parts of themselves they may have forgotten, neglected, or are waiting to be discovered. These tasks can be uncomfortable, which is why there is special emphasis on building a collaborative relationship in which clients feel safe to be vulnerable without fear of judgment. The client and therapist are viewed as equals in an effort to eliminate as much power dynamics as possible.

Jacob primarily utilizes Existential/Gestalt, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Mindfulness based Cognitive Behavioral therapies to aid clients in developing an awareness of themselves that supports clients in developing a sense of empowerment, freedom, and the ability to take responsibility for their lives in ways that feel authentic. The process begins with an exploration of our relationship to ourselves, others, the world and the beliefs, stories, or judgements that underpin them. These conversations have the potential to offer new insights into how we “show up” in our lives. These approaches celebrate the client’s uniqueness as an individual, while acknowledging the limitations we all have as humans.

Jacob has particular interest in working with the elderly, those who struggle with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and individuals with chronic or terminal illnesses.
