Duncan Simpson MSW, LISW-S, LICDC, Social Worker and Chemical Dependency Counselor Duncan Simpson is a licensed independent social worker and supervisor. He is also a licensed independent chemical dependency counselor through the state of Ohio. He completed his education at Cleveland State University where he was awarded a Bachelor of Social Work in 2018 and Master of Clinical Social Work in 2019. Duncan traditionally utilizes a cognitive behavioral therapy approach that is coupled with solution-focused based strategies which are consistent with his training in social work. By using solution-focused strategies, individuals have a voice in identifying problems they would like to work on and the direction they would like therapy to proceed. He realizes that effective therapy can only begin once an empathic, non-judgmental, and supportive relationship has been developed between himself and the individuals he works with and he strives to create these partnerships which will allow for an optimal environment for positive change to flourish. Duncan has received training in EMDR Therapy to assist those wishing to heal from trauma, abuse, and other emotional wounds. Duncan also has experience using approaches and interventions borrowed from Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Crisis Intervention, Psychoanalytic, and several others. Duncan has experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds who are struggling with depression, anxiety, social anxiety, trauma, life-adjustment issues, interpersonal difficulties, ADHD, OCD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, and other mental health issues. Duncan also has profound experience working with individuals who are struggling with substance use issues and has specialized licensing to work with such individuals. He also has specific experience treating licensed professionals with substance use disorders and addressing the specific needs of these individuals including coordinating treatment with various monitoring agencies. Before working for Grow Well Cleveland, Duncan has worked in private practice providing mental health therapy with the general population and in addictions treatment working with adults with substance use disorders and licensed professionals with substance use disorders. He is currently working in community mental health for a local agency while seeing individuals at Grow Well Cleveland. He is seeing individuals for treatment at Grow Well Cleveland during evening hours through teletherapy at this time. When Duncan is not practicing as a social worker, he spends his time fly fishing, exercising, exploring nature, watching true crime show re-runs, and helping others in recovery from addiction. He also enjoys spending time with his two cats Omar and Bixler. Duncan's pronouns are he/him/his. Duncan sees clients virtually.
